Vaccines were causing my infant to decline as I went in once a month for one at a time. Even my husband noticed. Sadly this is how I learned by age 18 he would be given approximately 75% MORE vaccines than we did in the 80's! I just assumed kids got what we did and why wouldn't I assume this considering we didn't have all these vaccines as grown adults and no one was/is freaking out about us "spreading disease". So when I read that "herd immunity" is a myth being used to fear monger parents into over vaccinating their kids for God only knows what reason, it resonated. I don't care what expert degree you have...how dare you consider "scientific evidence" in the form of an injury on a freaking rat over what I was seeing happening to my son. Do you think I'm going to wait until he dies like Jenny's son did momentarily or force myself to go through the hell all these moms in the book went through? NO! Burn me at the stake for being some kind of anti vax witch if you must but don't expect me to risk killing my son in order to keep up the myth of "herd immunity".

This book is amazing - heart-warming, touching and educational. I highly recommend it.
I liked that this book was an easy read, I found myself finding it hard to put down and read through it very quickly. The book focuses on parent's success stories with biological treatments. Although I think it is great to share success stories, it is bias to biological treatments for autism. Having said that, it is also great that someone has brought attention to these treatments in the mainstream media especially since there are many other health conditions associated with autism that are not usually taken in to consideration such as food allergies, digestive problems...and the biological approach does try to address these issues. I am not for or against any type of treatment...I think you need to find the right treatment for your child. I also think that what works for one child may not work for another, autism is so complex that way. For example, I tried the GFCF diet and found that my son did wonderfully when I took out dairy, but severly declined when I tried to take out gluten. I later found out after allergy testing, that he has an allergy to dairy but not to gluten. He also has allergies to many of the flours used in GFCF products...which is why I assume he had the reaction he did when I removed gluten and replaced them with GFCF products. My learning is that before doing any dietary changes, I need to do allergy testing to make sure I am not substituting with foods that can make him worse. It is a book I would recommend to any parent of an austistic child...but to keep in mind that in autism there are no silver bullets.
With a toddler who was just diagnosed with autism, this book made he go from devastation to anger back to hope and determination. It's was very informative, personal, and hard to put down. Now I'm ready to join the ranks and become a mother warrior!
